I flipped through this book and bought it not because of the cover but because it included information I had never heard before.
Learning most forms of meditation, ritual, prayer, concentration and memory I have noticed over the decades required I experience multiple practices.
Drawing from a diverse range of approaches to techniques is what led me to self-mastery in the techniques. I define mastery in this sense as mastery of basic techniques sufficiently to be able to then learn from the practicing of the techniques themselves.
While in years since I have always said I find the Frost book to be the best, it could also be said that it simply included the single element of technique I was missing and finally got me...off the ground.
Growing-up in a deeply New Age environment of Transcendental Meditation and Maharishi culture, as well as the neo-pagan, druidic and rosicrucian ethos through the Steiner community of my Waldorf School system, I take gurus and spiritual teachers with more than a grain of salt.
However, regardless of the philosophy or theology you ascribe to any spiritual practice, one reality I've learned from a lifetime of martial arts practice is you ignore a good technique at your own peril. Just as scholars fail when they fall for the ad hominem fallacy in their argument or research.
A variety of techniques and practices are useful from the eastern and also western mysteries, from yoga to monasticism, practical kabbalah, hypnotism, breath-work, as well as the studies of medical science, physics, biology and even the plants and chemicals of the psychedelic realms of plant medicine that miraculously connect the ascetic spiritual practices of yogi and guru with the hard sciences.
Despite a couple hundred hours of ten years spent teaching others the techniques I realized I am not going to create my own course even though astral travel brought me freedom from my sense of physical imprisonment in my body and a childhood riddled with painful and unknown autoimmune disease.
But I have shared my diary entries in autobiographical writings over the years and if you subscribe you will get emailed my precise experiences and their benefits as I wrote them in my diary from 1995 to 2000. And also my opinions on any course I recommend you check-out....
