An alternate Regency history story, Ace of Spades is the first book in the upcoming series Women in Waistcoats.
Women in Waistcoats is an alternate-Regency world in which titles and property are inherited matrilineally, or from mother to daughter. This swaps the gender roles of the period.
Ace of Spades, the title of which is taken from the cant of the period meaning widow, is the story of Aloic Ingrahm and his family after the passing of the family's matriarch, Bianca.
The story isn't ready for publishing yet, but I'm currently looking for beta-readers. If you'd like to read the first part of Ace of Spades and are willing to give me some honest feedback on it, please sign up below.
I've got two degrees, one in theater and one in comic books, both of which I pursued because I love telling stories.
I first found Regency works, like many Americans, in high school. I managed to miss the Jane Austen because of a disagreement with the professor, but I did find an early fascination with the film adaptations. And then a good friend from Scotland introduced me to the 1995 Pride & Prejudice adaptation (yes, the one with the lake scene!) and from there I was lost. (Persuasion and P&P fight in my brain over which is my favorite.)
One thing that I didn't quite like, that always sits poorly with me, is the purity politics. Only because there's a double standard to them. So, as I learned through fanfiction, as there wasn't something I wanted, I wrote my own.
