Connect with other people who share a love for photography. During the hands-on workshop we will collaborate and learn from one another. After the workshop you will stay connected through our group community; a place to share and ask questions. This is also where we will host monthly challenges and photo meetups.

GROW

All levels of experience are welcome. Because these workshops are small, they are very individualized. There is always room to grow in photography… and the best way to do that is with others. The beauty of humanity is how differently we see and thus how differently we photograph. We can always grow by learning from others.

Learn new skills

After 9 years of teaching I realized that students learned the most through sharing their images. Everything in the curriculum eventually came up. But it made more sense because they were seeing it in action for themselves… and having real conversation about it. In this way you will gain confidence using your camera, looking for interesting compositions and light and simply improving the way you look at your images.

Make Impactful Images

When we see an image and it makes us “feel” something, that is an impactful image. We will focus on how to “feel” and anticipate the moment when photographing. These are key aspects to compelling image making.

Prepare

You will need a camera for this workshop. A DSLR or mirrorless camera is preferred. But it can be any camera that allows you to change settings manually. The class will be geared toward digital, as we share our images with each other and prepare them for printing. If you have a film camera or aren’t sure send me a message so we can work it out (hello@amandaraelinas.com).

2 days of instruction workshop style classes

We will alternate class types to include 2 days of instruction in a more class-like setting. These will be knowledge based as well as hands-on.

2 days of on location practice classes

The other 2 class days will be on location. We will learn by doing and then sharing with each other!

Final Reception & Show

Included in your workshop fee is printing and preparing for display your best image. After the workshop is complete we will have a reception where you can invite family to view your work and celebrate all that you’ve learned. When we are done you keep your print.

I took one of Rae’s Discovery classes for photography and wanted to say how much I enjoyed it. She had a “field trip” planned for each class to demonstrate what we were learning that week, which really helped. She’s a great teacher and I highly recommend her class! 

Amanda, thanks so much for offering a photography class that somehow worked for the novice—namely me—to the expert photographer. I love traveling, and your class has given me the confidence to capture wonderful images!!
