Are you a mom struggling with parenting stress and burnout who longs to connect over books that illuminate the impossibility of modern motherhood?

Do you love darkly funny literature, fairytales, gothic satire, surrealism/magical realism, or other weird and bizarre literary fiction?

Does the idea of finding time for a regular, monthly group sound absurd?

This 3 month pop-up bookclub is for you!

We'll select one book for each month (the more diverse and inclusive, the better), and I'll send you reading reflection journal pages and prompts that will help you deeply explore issues and themes related to parenting stress and burnout. This is a little more than your typical book club-It's not therapy, but it does incorporate elements of bibliotherapy, the use of literature to elicit reflection, create connection and belonging, and inspire possibilities for navigating life ailments. Because I'll be reading the books (possibly for the first time) along with you, I will send additional reflection/discussion prompts during the month as we encounter themes that are relevant to our collective experiences. The first book selection will be announced by February 5, 2024.

The (optional) Book Club Meeting

1pm - 3 pm CST (US and CA)

7 pm - 9 pm GMT (UK)

Sunday, April 14

1pm - 3 pm CST (US and CA)

7 pm - 9 pm GMT (UK)

Sunday, May 26

1pm - 3 pm CST (US and CA)

7 pm - 9 pm GMT (UK)

We'll meet on Zoom once a month in March, April, and May for book discussion. You'll get to connect with others in the Weird Mom book community, share your thoughts and insights, and hear what others took away from the experience of reading. This will be an informal discussion with a chance to talk about overarching themes, perspective shifts, and hope.

You may not want to join in the community, and that's perfectly OK! You'll still get access to the journaling prompts, welcome package, and emails, including a summary of the virtual group discussion themes. You'll get plenty of value even if you opt to do the reading and reflection on your own.

About Elisha Bidwell

I have a Master of Arts in Counseling, specialize in Parental Stress and Burnout, and enjoy using expressive arts therapies in my work. Long ago, I also earned a Bachelor's degree in Literature with a focus on Literary Criticism. I love any chance to meld two of my greatest passions: reading and parental burnout prevention. I have a penchant for weird books and find that folklore, fairytale, and any fiction that is willing walk with us through the dark and disquieting parts of being human, is potent medicine for healing.
