consulting services for designers and tech editors
We all work best when we are prepared, when our toolbox is packed with the right tools for the job, when our list of what we need is all checked off, and we know what will happen next. Being prepared and knowing what to expect feels really good, and those feelings of confidence and ease trickle down to everyone who experiences our products and services, or benefits from what we do. Working in knitting as a designer or a technical editor is the best way to serve knitters, and it can be very rewarding. So we need to be at our best. I’m here to help you feel prepared, fill your toolbox, and tick the boxes.
You can book a one-on-one with me for an hour, or only a half an hour, depending on what you need. Here are the most common reasons people want to work with me. If you have something else in mind entirely, I’m here for it.
If you’re looking for sample knitting or proofreading, please contact me using the form at the bottom of this page.
You are out there designing and writing to get the best product to your knitters, and you want to get those patterns into as many hands as you can. Let’s look over the pattern and make sure it’s doing what you want it to, make sure you are coming across in a way that makes your knitters feel seen and supported, so they want your pattern. We can look over your style sheet too, or get you started working on one if you haven’t created one. You will never regret sharpening your style, writing, and layout in work as technical as a pattern.
As makers we spend a lot of time and money creating clothing, and we want to feel awesome in our clothes! Make sure you’re providing that good fit for your knitters by sharing your pattern’s measurements with me. We’ll go over them all and check them against industry standards, against your fit model, and make sure they align with your vision of the design and how it should look and feel for every size. There’s a lot to double check when grading for multiple sizes, and taking a little time to make sure you’re on the right track is time you won’t be spending fielding customer service issues about poor fit.
Offering a wide range of sizes for your patterns as a designer is imperative if you hope to serve all your knitters and support their needs. What does it mean to be size inclusive? What do you need to focus on and maybe change? There can be more to it than adding sizes. Bring all your questions and let’s get them answered so you can make sure your work is inclusive and supports all knitters. Tech editors, find out how to best support your clients in being size inclusive, and how to ensure that your business is recognized as a supportive place for size inclusive designers and knitters of all sizes and shapes.
It is our business, and the best way to feel great in it is to take control of anything that isn’t working well, and get it in shape. We do that by putting policies in place and in so doing, reclaiming our time and our energy. You decide how you will show up in your business and how to best protect your assets, including your best asset, which is you.
Structure the sessions how it works best for your business and schedule! Book 1, 2, or 3 hours at a time, and use them when and how you choose. Remember to send me any files you want me to review before each session.
I take on one client per season for the ultimate in personal business support. It is an opportunity for as-needed and ongoing guidance as you work in your goals. This option includes:

I booked a one-on-one with Kristina because…
I need to find a way to communicate better with clients in a way that lets me feel more in control of my time and my boundaries.
I’ve got great vision and I’m very confident in my designs but I need that to translate well into a usable pattern that is clear and easy to read.
I am happy with my success in such a short time frame but quickly feeling burnt out.
I think I'm doing a lot of ‘help via email' that never gets billed for. How do I handle that?
I’m not sure how I can improve the layout, presentation, style, formatting, or anything else, so it's more appealing and useful to the buyer.
How can I work in a timeline that works for me?
