You’re probably wondering what it is that I actually do over here at Nurture, Play and Healing.

You might already know that I work with kids and parents.

You might already know that I have a room full of toys that kids and I can play with.

You might already know that I’m passionate about play.

But you might not know exactly how a room full of toys and playing translates to ‘counselling’.

Sit with this Garry Landreth’s quote for a minute, ‘Toys are children’s words and play is their language’.

An animal could reflect a person.

A cage could reflect a place of safety.

A battlefield could reflect a life at home full of chaos and unpredictability.

When I work with kids it's my job to understand their ‘language of play’.

I help them find the words as they play out their experiences and share their life stories through their play.

It’s my job to help them make sense of it all.

When children come to me they don’t ‘just play’. They play as if their life depends on it.

Because their life does.
