TESOL overview- Where we have been -where we need to be
Our profession is young – we can take Professors Krashen’s 1980s pronouncement as the beginning of the profession. Professor Ellis was next in the late 1990s with The Principles of Second Language Acquisition. Our profession is huge, possibly 90 million teaching English across the globe, but two problems need addressing – (a) the slow dissemination and often inaccessible latest research findings and (b) the lack of real life accessible affordable ongoing training. Yet in two cities AI is being (has been) developed to (assist)(replace) language teachers by 2030. I will talk to the past, present and future of our TESOL world.
